Nursing home neglect
Nursing home neglect
You may have noticed it before anyone told you: a bedsore, a fall nobody wrote down, a parent who stopped eating or stopped talking. Neglect in a care home is often a staffing problem, and it shows up in the chart.
We request the care records, the staffing schedules and the state's inspection reports, and we read them with a nurse. If your family member is still there, we'll talk first about keeping them safe. Meera leads these cases.

What we look at
Bedsores
Pressure injuries that come from not being turned or moved often enough.
Falls
Falls from beds and wheelchairs, and falls that weren't reported to the family.
Medication
Missed doses, wrong doses, and sedation used in place of care.
Food and water
Weight loss and dehydration that the chart should have caught.
The records
Care plans, staffing logs and inspection reports, read page by page.
Your family
We keep you told, in plain words, through every step.
Questions we hear first
My parent is still living there. Should we move them?
Their safety comes first. We can help you think through a move, and how to keep records while you do.
The facility says it was an accident.
It may have been. The care records will show whether it was preventable, and we'll tell you what they say.
Can we bring a claim if our parent has died?
Often, yes, as a wrongful-death claim. The deadlines can be short, so call early.
